Due to
extensive native vegetation clearance of the River Murray Riparian Zone
in South Australia there are only small pockets of remnant vegetation
that now exist. These small remnant patches are very valuable and
need to be enhanced and preserved.
A LAP program that has been
operating for several years now is the Revegetation Incentive
Scheme.
This scheme aims to provide both
financial incentives and technical expertise to landholders wishing to
preserve such remnant patches of vegetation. Through revegetation
with native species this project seeks to address issues including
extensive loss of biodiversity, increased salinity, perched water
tables, seepage, drainage water issues and soil erosion.
Revegetation
or fencing projects for this year may be in the form of:
Protecting and enhancing
native remnant vegetation,
Revegetating blocks using
local native species,
Planting corridors to
protect and link Natural/remnant vegetation,
Planting woodlots and
windbreaks for drainage reduction, and
Erosion
management
Due to changes in funding revegetation scheme has been suspended
Some native species are grown at the Renmark Hostel an are availible to community members.
Please ring to see if plants are availible?
